Instructions
Step 1 of 21
Warm the milk and dissolve the yeast in it.

Move the mixture to a warm place (for example, place the bowl with the dough in a container with warm water).
Step 4 of 21
Cover with a towel.
Step 5 of 21
Wait about 30 minutes until the starter doubles in size.
Step 6 of 21
Separate the egg whites from the yolks. Cream the yolks with sugar and vanilla sugar.
Step 7 of 21
Beat the egg whites with a pinch of salt until foam forms.
Step 8 of 21
Mix the risen starter with the yolks.
Step 9 of 21
Add softened butter and mix.
Step 10 of 21
Fold in the beaten egg whites and mix.
Step 11 of 21
Gradually stir in the remaining flour (the amount depends on the quality of the product). Knead the dough so that it is not too stiff and does not stick to your hands.
Step 12 of 21
Leave the dough in a warm place again until fully risen (for 50–60 minutes).
Step 13 of 21
Soak the raisins in warm water for 10–15 minutes, then drain the water.
Step 14 of 21
Add the raisins to the risen dough and place it back in a warm place.

Grease the baking pans with butter and fill them with dough to ⅓ of their height.
Step 17 of 21
Cover with a towel or plastic wrap.
Step 18 of 21
Let the dough rise in the pans. Place in an oven preheated to 100 degrees for 10 minutes. After that, increase the temperature to 180 degrees and bake until done (for a Kulich height 11 cm and width 17 cm, the total time was 35 minutes: 10 min at 100 degrees and 25 min at 180 degrees). Check for doneness with a dry toothpick or match.
